Central to Success Workforce Summit opens Wednesday | WSAU News/Talk 550AM 99.9FM

ROTHSCHILD, WI (WSAU) — Six regional chambers of commerce will host the Central to Success Workforce Summit on Wednesday at the Central Wisconsin Convention and Expo Center in Rothschild.

The event is designed to empower local businesses to get creative with solving the labor shortage while also serving as a brainstorming and networking session. It is hosted by Chambers of Merrill in Wausau and Marshfield. Mosinee, Wisconsin Rapids (Heart of Wisconsin Chamber) and the Portage County Business Council are also involved.

Angel Whitehead of the Heart of Wisconsin Chamber said part of the focus will be on getting residents with disabilities into positions where they can thrive and helping those who are just coming out of prison or prison to re-enter the labor market. “Now more than ever, we need to look at all avenues and collaborate together,” she said.

Scott Larson of the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce says he wants to see better marketing to help attract those from outside Badger State who might not think of seeking a career in central Wisconsin, adding that surveys have shown that the state’s national perception is pretty much “cheese, cold winters, and the Green Bay Packers.”

“This highlights the need for better public relations and branding efforts for key industries in Wisconsin,” he said.

Many of the six House leaders acknowledged that their communities were seeing more job openings than people looking for work at a press conference in early May to announce the event.
